Change your email address

If you're getting more spam than you're comfortable with, one way to eliminate all of it is to get a new private email address, and then keep that new address private. Changing your address will mean notifying everyone you correspond with that you have a new email address. This may be inconvenient, but if you then keep your new email address private, you should never get spam at that address. You will also want to keep a public email address for use with online vendors and organizations, and you may get spam at that address, but you can at least have an address that you use for friends and family that you need not worry about.

The usual procedure is:

  1. Establish a new private email address. Open Door will provide you with a new address, free of charge, even if you already have the maximum number of addresses allowed. Just ask us.
  2. Notify everyone (who you want to have the private address) of the new address, being as selective as possible. You can use your mail program's address book to make a list of recipients.
  3. After a week or so, have the old address deactivated, or keep it for use as a public address.

If you have any questions about this procedure, please don't hesitate to ask us.
