Whitelists & Blacklists

Whitelists

A whitelist is a list of email addresses that you want to always receive email from. Since it is possible for legitimate emails to be accidentally marked as spam, we recommend creating a whitelist of email addresses you frequently receive mail from. Mail from any address on a whitelist will not be filtered, but will pass directly to your inbox. You can add email addresses to a whitelist one at a time, or you can import your entire address book (recommended only for advanced users).

Adding addresses manually

Log into your account at www.gmail.com and click on the "Contacts" link in the side-bar on the left. Now click "Add Contact" in the upper right, and fill in a name and email address.

When you are done entering information, click the "Save" button at the bottom. You will now receive all mail that is sent from this address.

Importing your address book (for advanced users)

The fastest way to create a reliable whitelist for your Open Door account is by using the information you already have in Address Book. Follow these quick step-by-step instructions to have your entire address book whitelisted in no time!

  1. First, download "Address Book to CSV Exporter" here

  2. Open AddressBook2CSV:

  3. Once AB2CSV is open, click the "Export" button, and then click "Save" on the dialogue box that pops up. This will create a file on your Desktop called "Address Book.csv". Leave the file where it is for now, we'll use it in a minute.

  4. Now log into your account at www.gmail.com and click the "Contacts" link in the side-bar on the left. Next, click the "Import" link on the upper-right. On the new window that pops up, click the "Choose File" button and navigate to your Address Book.csv file (on the Desktop)

Click "Choose". Now click the "Import Contacts" button at the bottom-left and you're done! If you ever want to view all of your contacts, click the "Contacts" link in the side-bar on the left, and then click "All Contacts" towards the top.

Blacklists

Blacklists allow you to eliminate all mail sent from a specific sender, which may, in certain cases, be useful. But be careful with blacklists, as errors made in blacklist setup could result in loss of legitimate email.

  1. Log into your account at www.gmail.com.

  2. Click the "Create a filter" link just to the right of the "Search the Web " button towards the top. (See below)

  3. Once the "Create a Filter" box shows up, enter the email address you wish to block mail from, then click "Next Step >>".

  4. Since we want all mail from this sender to be deleted, we check the "Delete it" box at the bottom, and then click "Create Filter"

That's it! You can add as many filters as you need.
